Day 6 Your views on Mainstream Music

My views on mainstream music are pretty simple, I prefer not to listen to it anymore most of the newer stuff all sounds the same. I have my few favorite artist that I still listen to but more often than not I listen to underground just for the simple fact that they don't make music like they used to.

Sidways MoHawk

Here is the princess new hair style this took longer than most because she didn't want to cooperate lol! I wanted to try something a little different so I parted her hair diagonally in the hopes I could braid one side over and then twist the rest but I'm still not good at converting the cornrows into twist so I just cornrowed all of it into a sideways mohawk! Instead of just using one bead color combo I alternated it I like it think it turned out pretty cute!

Don't know what she was doing!

Whewwww that was alot never realized how lazy my days are

Nappy!?!?! What's it mean to you

I often hear people refer to their hair or someone else hair as "nappy" my inspiration for this post came when I was at the store today and someone referred to my son as having "nappy" hair not pretty curls like most multiracial children, now although my son did not hear this I took it offensively my self. Needless to say when I got home I decided to look up the meaning of this word and this is what I got
Definition
chiefly Scottish
: liquor; specifically : ale
Origin
obsolete nappy, adjective, foaming
First Known Use: circa 1550
So as everyone can see this word has absolutely nothing to do with hair. I have never liked this word or someone using it to refer to my children's beautiful curls. I want everyone to be more aware when this word is used I am going to do another post on this subject soon I have an interview set up with a friend of mine I would love to get other perspectives on this if you are interested email me at boysandgirlsnaturalcurls@yahoo.com
Also I decided to google Nappy under images this is one of several pictures that popped up and I love her hair!

My purpose has been fulfilled!

If all I do is inspire one person that's all I needed! One of my FB friends did this style on her daughter and I wanted to share it with my readers it made me smile to see this on another little girl =)

Day 3 Favorite Book

This one is a little bit harder for me than the other 2 days have been, I have so many books that I enjoy reading it's difficult to pick a fave, but if I have to pick I will. I'd have to say its Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen I know I know kinda corny maybe a little dorky but what can I say I'm a sucker for love.

Guess he decided it was time for a cut

I would like to start by welcoming you to Way Back Wednesday!
Every week I will feature a picture from the past! Today's picture is from when Malic decided his haircut was not short enough, or maybe he just decided to learn how to use the clippers I'm never quite sure what this child is thinking! I am however glad that he decided to do it on his self rather than his brother or sister that would have been devastating!

Day 2 Something You Feel Strongly About

Day 2 of the 30 day Challenge is Something You Feel Strongly About

I feel strongly about is making our children realize regardless of their race they are beautiful people and they should be happy with who they are and that as long as they try they can succeed at anything they want to do in life. The reason I feel like this is because my family has a pretty big problem with the lifestyle I've chosen as they call it basically they don't like the fact that I have multiracial children and I don't want this to affect them in any way shape or form.

DIY-Flower Clips

To make the flower clips that I previously mentioned on this post you will need a few things first a hot glue gun I purchased mine for $2.47 at WalMart and the glue sticks were the same price for 30.

You will also need some fake flowers just pick out your favorite ones I believe the ones I picked ranged from $2.00 to $3.00 the Walmart here doesn't have a very big craft section, and we do not have any craft stores. For this DIY I will be using the red flower in the picture.
Also needed are some rhinestones or any kind of decoration you would like for the middle. I bought these acrylic jewels which were kind of small so instead of just using one I clustered them together.

You will also need some clips. I prefer these clips that latch I think I got 4 clips for $3.00. I like these because they stay in the princesses hair without me having to do a whole bunch to it.

Step by Step instructions
1.) Take your flower and remove the stem on mine I had to remove each layer from the flower because there were plastics pieces through out it on the orange one I did this step was not necessary until i started gluing them to the clip.

2.) I glued a piece of ribbon on to the clip which is not necessary with this particular flower as it is big enough to cover the entire clip

3.) Start by gluing the biggest petal from the flower on the clip and work your way up from the bottom of the flower to the top.

4.) Glue the rhinestone or stones in the center of the flower, and you have your own custom flower clip.
I think I spent a total of $20.00 on this project and I'm getting 4 custom flower clips out of the deal so I think that's pretty good considering we can't get to many hair accessories where I live. I would love to be able to take credit for this but honestly I would have never thought about it if it wasn't for Nikki here's the original post that she linked me to, I really appreciate this and I'm happy that I'm able to share this with all my readers.

New Cut!

As promised we also do post on cuts and designs here is what we came up with last night I say we because me and the kids dad work as a team on the haircut side he's in the process of teaching me the in's and out's of using the clippers as of right now I'm not that good with them but he does a great job. I got a little low on the cut as you can see so it kinda makes the design harder to see and he moved and I messed up the line in the back but all in all its pretty good. Daddy did the design like I said he knows more than me when it comes to this aspect of hair.

Day 1

Day 1 of the 30 day challenge is 5 ways to win my heart,
1.) Make my kids laugh
2.) Cook me good food (I love to eat)
3.) Listen (Sometimes just being there is priceless)
4.) Laugh at my jokes (They can be quite corny)
5.) If the Princess likes you it's instant (She doesn't like anyone usually)

First Braid Out

This was our first attempt at a braid out....I think it turned out pretty well after her curls had faded yesterday I decided to just moisturize with some Cantu Shea Butter and put in 8 small braids I left in the 3 cornrows she already had and she slept in that. This morning I just took the braids out and spritzed her hair with a little bit of  water, conditioner mix then fluffed. I then accented with a flower clip that I made thanks to the advice from Nikki over at Intermittent Babbling and it was super simple to make here's the link http://intermittentbabbling.blogspot.com/2011/07/independence-daynational-afro-day-day.html

Don't really have much else =) The following pictures are the princess on our outing today.

Curly Bug!

Well, as many of you probably know the box braids was a bust :( Makes me sad because I really loved them so versatile. So this morning I took the remaining box braids out it was mostly just around the root that was still in, so it only took a few minutes. After washing her hair I made the decision I wanted to go as curly as possible today but wanted to something super cute as well, this is what I came up with I remember in high school many of my friends as well as some music groups were only putting about 3 or 4 braids in the side of their hair so I went with this idea. I love, love, love her hair like this I just put 3 cornrows into her hair then added the ribbon and
let the rest stay curly. The results probably would have been better if I had some curling custard or something else that defines curls but all I had on hand is what I always use Shea butter leave in. Regardless we received quite a few compliments and she loves it. I have to thank all the other blogs I read for the inspiration as well this is the first time I have ever left her hair down.

Malikhi's Fresh Braids!

So I woke up this morning with every intention of giving Malikhi a new style didnt want to do just straight backs. The first picture is just after taking his hair down and he was running around screaming playing and just having fun, that is until I told him it was time to wash his hair mind you I gave him a good 30 minutes in between taking the previous style out and washing but he hates getting his hair washed. Now how I personally deal with this is to simply remind him that he wants his hair long and if he would like to keep it this way he should do what is needed to care for it.

So after phase 1 is complete taking down style and washing hair I am left with this, this is after washing, conditioning, applying the Cantu Shea Butter Leave in and detangling (always use fingers first) this helps prevent breakage when you comb with a wide tooth comb. After I did this I decided to let him take another break so I parted into pig tails and twisted. (he wouldnt let me take pic)
So I finally braided and just ended up doing straight backs which I don't really care for doing but it took the least amount of time. The parts are not the best today because Malic decided to stick the end of the rat tail comb into my ottoman and break it off :( not very happy about that. This is what I came up with. He likes it and I hope everyone else enjoys it too.

Cantu Shea Butter and Coconut Oil

Now these two products I purchased on Monday of last week and I absolutely love them the Cantu shea butter leave in made both my kids hair extra soft and easy to detangle which is usually a struggle. Using the cocnut oil to seal is working great as well. Where their hair usually drinks up whatever I put into it both these products together are great of course I will give it a couple more weeks and see if I still feel the same.

Olive Oil Girls Hair Pudding

I bought this product a few weeks ago, and well silly me didn't take the time to read the ingredients. Notice it says ORGANIC well after using it a couple times on my daughter's hair I realized it was not retaining the moisture I feel her hair should have so I looked at the back and of course the list was as follows: aqua (water) cocos nucifera (coconut) oil Paraffinum Liquidum (mineral oil) and the list goes on. Although, I love the way this product made my daughters hair smell, I refuse to use again because it did not help retain the needed moisture.

2nd day with box braids!

Day 2 of the box braids and exactly what I was afraid of her hair is not holding on the ends as I would like it to. Woke up and had to rebraid one in the front and as the day progresses more and more are comin out and getting rebraided. On the upside I love the fact that I could just put her hair back into piggy tails and add this pretty bow it was super simple and took 3 minutes or so there didn't seem to be much fuss from her and she is enjoying this style :) update again soon

Protective Style First Box Braids!

So since I had to take down her hairstyle that was very unsuccessful I decided I would try and do some box braids and give the beads a rest for the rest of the summer, that is unless we have a family function or something special goin on! Of course like usual she kicked and screamed and didnt want any part of gettin her hair done but I feel like it was a success. After washing and deep conditioning I applied Cantu shea butter leave in conditioner and sealed with pure coconut oil. then parted into 4 seperate sections and did very simple box braids. She does like them even though she didnt want to sit still.
As you can see in the picture below she has that pouty look on her face she was just so devasted that I made her sit still! lol. but as usual the end result was very pleasent.

Shes so sad!!!!

Malikhis Mohawk!

So a couple weeks ago I braided my daughters hair into a mohawk, well after hearing my son beg for this long, and much consideration plus some advice from the great ladies over at Beads, Braids, and beyond, my son has his mohawk. Its actually quite dissapointing considering after spending an hour or so doing this to his hair he decided he doesnt really like it as much as he thought he would, just getting the pictures was a struggle. He's actually quite mad at me because I informed him that it would have to stay like this for a couple days seeing as I still have to do his sisters hair, as well as my 1 yr old niece for her very first beauty pageant. Please don't mind the frizz I am in the process of trying out new products, right now I am just starting to use Shea butter leave in conditioner and pure coconut oil. Just as a reminder dont forget to like our FB page as well, Boysandgirlsnaturalcurls. Thanks ladies and all comments are welcomed and encouraged.

Introductions

I would like to start by introducing myself and my children.
The first picture is my oldest Malikhi, he loves his hair and
is not as of now letting us cut it. This does not bother me as
2 of his uncles have long hair .
Then my second born is Malic, he's 4. He does not like
getting his hair combed which is why we keep it cut.
Many people may think this is easier but not really,
I am currently in the process of learning how to fade
and do designs in his hair so I can do more to it than
just a lowcut.
Then there's my princess, my only girl MaChaela she
just turned 2. Although doing her hair is a pain at times
and she fights me, she tends to love the end results,
especially if there are beads involved. Since starting to do
her hair I have learned so much more than just your basic
cornrow with designs. Thanks to the blogs I've been following
without them would probably still be struggling.
Last but not least my youngest MaCorey he is 8 months old and,
although his hair is not long enough to style yet if your like me
most of your mistakes were made on your childs head when
they were infants. Multiracial babies which nobody informed
me of are born with straight hair that changes at about a year old.
I made the mistake with my olds of using babyoil to moisturize.
I now know that this is bad for the hair and does more harm
than good.

Here It Goes

So I am very new at this, today will be my first day as a blogger. I have been following several blogs for a couple months now and they inspired me to start my own, so here it goes. I am a 23 year old mother of 4 multiracial children and am now starting the journey to natural, healthy hair care thanks to the ladies of BBB and many other blogs which I have listed to the side the start of this journey has been very enjoyable. I will be posting pictures of hairstyles and hopefully be having contest as well thanks to all you ladies that have been there when I had questions even though some of my questions were probably silly. Please bear with me and follow my blog hopefully I can help all of you as much as you have helped me, We can all learn from each other.
